Globcover-derived land cover data for UN-REDD
National databases for 9 UN-REDD pilot countries
land cover Bolivia Land cover is extremely important for natural resource assessment and management, environmental modelling and decision-making.

Given that the Globcover is currently the most recent (2005) and detailed (300 m) global archive on land cover, FAO-NRCE has promoted the re-processing of this database at national extent for 9 countries as part of the activities of United Nations Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (UN-REDD).

These 9 countries were selected by UN-REDD for the phase 1 of the programme:
  • Africa: Democratic Republic of the Congo, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia
  • Asia & Pacific: Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Viet Nam
  • Latin America & Caribbean: Bolivia (figure above), Panama, Paraguay
The resulted data sets are vector based (.shp), coded using LCCS classes, and topologically corrected to be used in the GLCN's Advanced Database Gateway (ADG) software. ADG provides a user-friendly interface and advanced functionalities to analyse LCCS-based land cover data sets by breaking down classes in their classifiers for further aggregations and analysis.

Each data set is accessible through the FAO's geo-spatial data and metadata archive, Geonetwork. To retrieve each single metadata record (which provides more details on the data and the database itself), click on the links below.
