The workshop was held in Dakar, Senegal from 10-14 November 2003
in combination with the Africa GIS'03 Conference (4-7 November 2003).
It was organized by FAO
with the financial and technical support of the United Nations Environment Programme
(UNEP) and the
Government of Italy.
Countries
The workshop was intended for technical individuals from national
institutes involved in land cover mapping. 25 participants from
13 countries attended the workshop:
Niger, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast,
Senegal, Gambia, Cape Verde, Benin, Togo, Ghana, Mauritania,
Mali, Cameroon, Nigeria.
Goals
This initiative aimed to provide participants
with training on land cover mapping, LCCS and other
geo-information technologies, which can be
used on both national and regional projects. The workshop was
also used to initiate regional collaboration and GLCN projects.
