Regional Workshops: South America
The workshop was held in Quito, Ecuador, on 15-19 November 2004. It was organized by FAO with the financial and technical support of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Government of Italy and the Government of the Netherlands. The workshop was hosted by SIGAGRO-CLIRSEN with the support of FAO Representation in Ecuador.

North-Central Asia Countries
The workshop was intended for technical individuals from national institutes involved in land cover mapping. 33 participants from 12 countries attended the workshop:

Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, Uruguay, Venezuela

Goals
This initiative aimed to provide participants, who were mainly officials from national institutes involved in land cover mapping, with training on land cover mapping, LCCS and other geo-information technologies, which can be used on both national and regional projects. The workshop was also used to initiate regional collaborations on GLCN projects.
