After a decade of largely unsustainable development in southern
Africa the livelihoods and lives of many people and the economic
prospects of most countries continue to be threatened by environmental
degradation and inequitable development.
Most SADC countries now face a series of critical demographic, social,
economic, agricultural, energy, technological, and institutional transitions
in order to move toward development that is economically, socially, and
environmentally sustainable.
This project aims at establishing a methodology for the acquisition of
land cover data using satellite remote sensing technology as a vehicle
for rapid collection of current detailed land information.
