Regional Workshops: Central Asia
The workshop was held in Antalya, Turkey, on 26-30 November 2007. It was organized by FAO with the financial and technical support of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Government of Italy, the Government of the Netherlands and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Turkey, General Directorate of Agricultural Research – Central Research Institute for Field Crops. The FAO Sub-regional Office for Central Asia and the FAO Representative for Turkey provided logistical support.

Central Asia Countries
The workshop was intended for technical individuals from national institutes involved in land cover mapping. Workshop participants were envited from the following countries:

Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tadzikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan.

Goals
This initiative aimed to provide participants, who are mainly officials from national institutes involved in land cover mapping, with training on land cover mapping, LCCS and other geo-information technologies, which can be used on both national and regional projects. The workshop was also used to initiate regional collaborations on GLCN projects.
