The workshop was held in Sharm-el-sheik, Egypt, on 19-25 March, 2005. It was organized by
FAO
with the financial and technical support of the United Nations Environment
Programme (UNEP), the
Government of Italy and the Government of the Netherlands.
Countries
The workshop was intended for technical individuals from national
institutes involved in land cover mapping. 35 participants from
17 countries attended the workshop:
Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan,
Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia,
Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen.
Goals
This initiative aimed to provide participants, who were mainly
officials from national institutes involved in land cover mapping,
with training on land cover mapping, LCCS and other geo-information
technologies, which can be used on both national and regional projects.
The workshop was also used to initiate regional collaborations on GLCN
projects.
