This workshop was held in New Delhi, India, organized by FAO with the financial and technical support of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Government of Italy and the Government of the Netherlands. The Italian Minister of Education, Mrs. Letizia Moratti, gave a key note speech at the opening of the workshop.

The organizing committee of the workshop includes the National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA), the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer of the Indian Institute for Technology (IIT), which also hosts the workshop.

India The workshop is intended for technical individuals from national institutes involved in land cover mapping. 35 participants from 24 different public and private agencies and institutions attended the workshop.

Goals
This initiative aims to provide participants, who are mainly officials from national institutes involved in land cover mapping, with training on land cover mapping, LCCS and other geo-information technologies, which can be used on both national and regional projects. The workshop is also used to initiate regional collaboration and GLCN projects.
