Hindu Kush - Karakorum - Himalaya harmonization programme
Hindu Kush - Karakorum - Himalaya region The Hindu Kush - Karakorum - Himalaya is the widest and most recent mountain chain in the world. It is located in areas of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal and Pakistan. The 3500 Km of the Himalaya chain supports a population of around 150 million inhabitants and shows particular vulnerability in sectors such as environment and policy making.

This vulnerability, together with processes related to climate change and degradation caused by the improper use of natural resources, becomes a critical element which needs to be assessed in the planning and management of sustainable development in the region.

An accurate analysis of the environmental effects and of their impact on local development therefore clearly becomes a priority in order to ensure the implementation of sustainable development aimed at biodiversity conservation and improvement of the quality of life for the local populations.

The Himalaya RHAP initiative aims to act as a catalyst in the region engaging national and international organization in a clear and transparent process towards an effective harmonization process with a defined set of regional stakeholder required outputs.
